AssetGen: Document and Visualize Complex IT Infrastructure

The Company

The AssetGen range of software toolsets for infrastructure management is developed by Square Mile Systems from its headquarters in the picturesque rural village of Poulton close to Cirencester, Gloucestershire, UK. Development of the AssetGen range started in 2004, with the first product AssetGen Connect delivered in 2006 to cover physical IT infrastructure – cabling, networks and data centres. Our second product AssetGen SysMap was first delivered in 2007 to address increasing problem of mapping logical and system architectures. In 2015 the complementary AssetGen Visio utilities were first released to support more efficient layout of large numbers of diagrams .

Since 2006 customers across many industry sectors have used AssetGen to document and manage their critical IT infrastructure, with environments ranging from 10 to over 100,000 servers. The ability of AssetGen to create multiple Visio diagrams for easy distribution of IT system structures and locations is quite unique, as well as our practical knowledge of infrastructure configuration management and Visio automation methods.

AssetGen software and services can be purchased from Square Mile Systems, or through approved reseller partners.

AssetGen Services

Making trusted data a reality, not a dream.

Use the Square Mile Systems services team to quickly achieve delivery of end to end understanding of your infrastructure – what you have, where it is, what it does and how it works. Let your engineering teams focus on existing work, with SMS implementation services delivering the tasks where our skills and resource give good value. This may involve a mix of assessment, planning, data capture and integration with existing toolsets depending on manpower requirements. The end deliverables are trusted understanding of infrastructure operation to support change, project and risk management.

For example, if you want to automate the maintenance of 1000s of Visio diagrams, then SMS can help you develop the data and Visio standards for consistent diagrams. Our custom Visio training courses will transfer the knowledge to assess and retain existing diagram formats, standardising Visio stencils and templates. It may also involve the integration with AssetGen and other data sources to reduce maintenance workload and improve infrastructure visibility.
