Reception is the first year of Primary School at PRIMA International School. It is preceded by preschool and followed by year one. At PRIMA International School of Belgrade we have adopted the Cambridge International Primary Program. This program gives schools throughout the world the proper framework to develop Mathematics, English and Science skills and knowledge in young children.

The Primary Program provides guidance for curriculum development and classroom teaching and learning, and it allows teachers to properly assess children’s learning as they progress.

The Cambridge Primary Progression Tests are available for the last four years of primary education and are designed to allow teachers to follow the progress of their students over time and to analyze their performance in the classroom.

The Cambridge Curriculum

The Cambridge Primary Curriculum Framework provides a natural progression through six stages of Primary education, from Stage 1 when children first enter Primary education (at the approximate age of 5) to Stage 6 when they usually move on to Secondary education (at about age 11).

The curriculum framework provides a valuable structure that focuses on what children should be able to do at each of the primary stages.

The Cambridge Primary Curriculum Framework helps teachers to develop the highest quality program for teaching young children English, Mathematics and Science. This forms the basis of the Cambridge International Primary Program.

Key Benefits of the Primary Program

The Cambridge International Primary Program allows students to progress naturally and without difficulty into the Middle Years curricula, such as Cambridge Checkpoint and IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education). The Primary Program is appropriate and relevant internationally and blends easily with other curricula.

Progression after the Cambridge International Primary Program

The link between the Cambridge International Primary Program and IGCSE (the international examinations taken by students about age 16) is provided by Cambridge Checkpoint which covers teaching for the ages approximately 12-14. The Checkpoint Framework covers the early and middle years of secondary and ends with the diagnostic test, available in Mathematics, English and Science, which indicates readiness to begin IGCSE.
