UMA is the third largest public university in Maine. In addition to its main campus in the state’s capital, UMA also serves students at its campus in Bangor (UMA Bangor) and through UMA Centers around the state. With its multiple locations and long-term expertise in online and distance learning, UMA is generally considered the university of choice for Mainers of all ages who want to attend college without uprooting their lives.
A Pioneer in Distance Education
UMA has been a pioneer in providing higher education to students at a distance, from the very first courses broadcast via ITV to today’s highly interactive online courses.
For many, it is hard to remember a time when information could not be accessed, literally, in the palm of your hand. A time before smartphones and PCs, when Facebook and Instagram were not part of a world wide web connected citizenry. Thirty years ago, UMA, with University of Maine System support, was on the cusp of this technological movement with a goal of reshaping access to higher education across the state of Maine and beyond.
Academic Overview

Students can take our courses on the Augusta Campus, the Bangor Campus, Online, and across the state at UMA Centers.

UMA Academic Logistics provides administrative support for faculty, students, and staff across the state of Maine
Academic Logistics offers statewide services for courses using all delivery modes. Faculty members submit their handouts, exams, and instruction sheets electronically and we ensure they get where they need to go. From receiving to returning, assignments and exams are processed and tracked through our department and sent to over 35 site and Center locations in Maine.

Student Services
Student Testing in Augusta
Room 11 in the Katz Library building is home to our 18 seat testing center.
We offer proctored exams Monday thru Friday at 9:30 am and 12:30 pm, and 4:30 pm time slots are added as needed. Each semester we adjust our testing schedule based on student needs. Evening exam times are limited during the summer months.
Augusta students are now able to log on to our new service YouCanBook.Me and self-register for exam appointments. Once registered, you will receive an e-mail confirmation and instructions on what to bring to your appointment. We encourage students to keep their e-mail confirmation as they can reschedule or cancel with the link provided. Self-registration must be completed 24 hours prior to the exam date and time.

Student Testing at Distance Locations across the State (Sites & Centers)
Students enrolled in an online or delayed viewing section need to sign up for a testing location. Students taking online classes do not select a class location upon registering for the course. Please follow the link below to the Testing Location Registration form to select an exam location. This is a vital step in ensuring your exam will be sent to the correct locations.
Upon completing this form, you will receive a confirmation email and contact information for your location of choice, along with instructions on how to schedule an exam appointment. Because the availability of space and proctors varies from location to location, it is your responsibility to contact site or Center staff at least one week prior to each exam.

Student Out-of-System Testing
Students outside of our University of Maine at Augusta testing locations are responsible for finding a local education professional who is willing to proctor exams. Often times, students are able to locate proctors at local libraries, schools, or testing centers. Students will need to provide the necessary details and contact information for the proctor via the Out-of-System Testing form; UMA Academic Logistics will confirm the submission via email and forward the information to your instructor.
After verification/approval, UMA Academic Logistics will forward the exam to the proctor. Please note that the approval process could take up to two business days to complete.

Uploading Paper Exams into an Online Format
UMA Academic Logistics assists faculty in uploading their paper exams into an online format in BrightSpace.
Having an online version of your exam allows all students the opportunity to take their exam online regardless of their physical location.

“Live” Online Proctoring
UMA Academic Logistics offers “live” online proctoring of online exams for faculty and their students through BrightSpace.
We request that you allow 7-10 business days for exam processing and scheduling exam sessions and proctors.
Adhering to Faculty Policies
We ask that new and existing faculty members take a moment at the beginning of each semester to complete the faculty policies form. This ensures that UMA Academic Logistics has the most accurate and up-to-date information on file. This will enable us to have correct contact information and know-how to best return completed student work to you for grading.

Distributing Exams and Handouts to Locations Statewide
UMA Academic Logistics will distribute your exams to locations with enrollments, assist in securing statewide proctors, and facilitate the return of your completed exams and student work.
At the beginning of each semester, we ask that you reach out to UMA Academic Logistics if you will require, proctored exams and send us your exam dates ASAP. It is recommended that the exam window be open for at least five business days. Please keep in mind that most locations do not have weekend hours. We can be reached via email at umaal@maine.edu.
By providing us with clear and precise exam instructions, you help us to ensure that distance education proctors have what they need to best serve your students.

Zoom
If your course is delivered via Hyflex and/or Web conferencing, we ask that you provide us with your Zoom Meeting ID. Assigning an ID allows students, faculty and other guests to meet synchronously over the Internet. The ZOOM Meeting ID will also be utilized behind the scenes for troubleshooting issues that may arise. Please take a moment to complete the form to ensure Academic Logistics has access to your ZOOM Meeting ID in case your students, distant locations or tech support are searching for this information.
