Xiaomi 12 Pro Review

Xiaomi 12 Pro review: Design

Xiaomi 12 Pro comes with a body that is a combination of glass and metal. The front of the device is covered with a solid Corning Gorilla Glass Victus glass. This glass curves towards the edges and creates a symmetry with the back of the device, which is also made of glass. Although the screen glass is solid, Xiaomi has installed a screen protector film. We soon started to see scratches on this film. You can remove this movie if you wish, but we kept it on screen for as long as we experimented. We did not encounter any major problems visually.

The matte glass back surface is almost smooth and feels very pleasant to use. However, it may also cause the device to slip out of your hand and fall to the ground during use. Therefore, it is useful to use it carefully without a case. The gray version of the device we have will be the choice of many users with its heavy appearance. It is really enjoyable to use the device without a case, but for those who are afraid to drop it and damage it, you can use the transparent silicone case from Xiaomi. This case hugs the phone tightly, does not play anywhere and allows you to use the phone comfortably without the worry of dropping it.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro has a flagship phone design that we often see today with its rounded corners and curved screen. At 8.2 millimeters, it’s considered a slim phone, and the thinned metal frame helps the phone look and feel thinner. With a weight of 204 grams, we see that it remains in the reasonable range for a large smartphone with a metal and glass combination and a 6.73-inch screen.

On the front, the screen provides an 89.6 percent screen-to-body ratio with its curved edges and thin bezels at the top and bottom. At the top of the screen is a centered selfie camera hole. Just above the screen, the handset is placed on a thin and long grid. On the bottom edge are the USB-C port, microphone, nano SIM card tray and speaker. On the top edge are the second speaker, second microphone and infrared port. There is also a small logo on the top edge that indicates the speakers are powered by Harman Kardon.

At the back, the rectangular camera module protrudes noticeably. The edges of this module have created a nice appearance with metal cutting. There are three cameras here. The main camera comes with a larger sized lens than the other two cameras. In addition, a dual-color LED flash is also included in this module. As we’ve seen on phones from other Chinese manufacturers, the Xiaomi logo is positioned in line with the camera module so that it looks neat when the phone is held horizontally.

An interesting detail about the Xiaomi 12 Pro is that this phone does not have any water and dust resistance rating. However, we see IP68 durability in almost all models in the same price segment with this phone. Since there is no such rating, it is useful to use the phone cautiously at the water’s edge or in the rain.

Xiaomi 12 Pro review: Display and Sound

The Xiaomi 12 Pro has a 6.73 inch LTPO AMOLED display. The screen has top class features such as support for 1 billion colors, 120 Hz refresh rate, 1000 nits automatic, 1500 nits maximum brightness, HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision support. The screen with 1440 x 3200 pixel resolution and 20:9 aspect ratio offers a high pixel density of 521 ppi. The screen resolution is initially set to low, but you can set it to WQHD+, ie the maximum resolution, in the settings. Sharp and clear texts and eye-catching graphics are presented thanks to this high resolution screen.

We mentioned that the screen curves towards both sides. Especially in one-handed use, there may be unwanted commands caused by pressing the screen firmly. The brightness is sufficient indoors, and it rises to a level that can be easily seen outside thanks to the automatic brightness. Thanks to the high color support, the photos, videos or videos watched from services such as Netflix and YouTube are presented in a high image quality. You can also change the color profile in the display settings. Although it has a high color profile and brightness, we felt that the Xiaomi 12 Pro’s display was slightly dull compared to that of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The 120 Hz refresh rate is also among the features we expect to have in a high-end phone, and the Xiaomi 12 Pro meets it. Thanks to the presence of LTPO technology, the refresh rate can change dynamically according to the content, ranging from 1 to 120 Hz. Although the 120 Hz refresh rate increases battery consumption, it makes transitions and animations look more realistic. While it is possible to watch HDR content on YouTube, you can also benefit from Dolby Vision support on Netflix. With its large screen and high-profile display technologies support, the Xiaomi 12 Pro is a good multimedia phone.
